Tibiro Wonzi Station

Background

Tibiro Wonzi Washing Station is located in Sidama Region, Eastern Zone, Chire Woreda, within Horaela Kebele, at elevations above 1,800 masl. The station’s name, “Tibiro Wonzi,” is inspired by the running water that flows around the station, reflecting the natural environment and its importance to coffee cultivation and processing in the area. The station sources coffee from surrounding localities including Horaela, Chire, Abaye Takka, Burgayesa, and Laalesa, working closely with approximately 450–500 dedicated smallholder farmers. With strong infrastructure, experienced staff, and a focus on washed coffee production only, Xibro Wonz PLC is recognized for delivering consistent quality, clarity, and classic Sidama cup profiles.

Processing Method

  • Washed Process

– Fresh red cherries are delivered to the station and pulped on the same day

- Coffee undergoes controlled fermentation to break down and remove mucilage

- Thorough washing ensures clean and uniform parchment

– Coffee is then spread on raised drying beds, turned regularly, and protected from excessive heat or moisture

– Drying typically takes 12–15 days depending on weather conditions
