Derara Daye Bensa
Background
"Derara" means flower rising in Sidamic—an image of growth, renewal, and the quiet unfolding of something meaningful. In Uraga, Guji, that meaning feels close to the land itself: coffee cherries ripening on highland plots, tended by generations of farming families for whom coffee is both livelihood and legacy.
Like its name, Derara is a reminder that coffee, too, is something that rises—from small plots in the highlands to the cup, carrying with it the care and tradition of the community that grew it.
Community Lot
Community lots are sourced from smallholder farmers surrounding a single washing station, capturing the shared character of a community.
Derara at Derara Station
Derara is our Community Lot sourced from smallholder farmers around Uraga town in Guji. The coffee is processed at Derara Station, located in the highlands of Uraga at elevations ranging from 2,020 to 2,220 meters above sea level. Sunny and surrounded by vegetation, the station is owned and run by Asefa Dukamo Korma, offering an ideal environment for producing high-quality coffee.
