Background

Arara Farm rests in the highlands of Hamasho, a land shaped by movement, memory, and cultivation. Once part of a natural forest, this highland gradually transformed as people settled here, bringing coffee, crops, livestock, and a strong sense of community. Today, Arara Farm is a living landscape where coffee grows alongside inset, wheat, and grazing cattle, nourished by abundant rainfall, fertile acidic soils, and generations of farming knowledge.

Coffee Variety, Climate, Altitude

The farm stretches across elevations of 2,300 to 2,400 meters above sea level, with each section benefiting from the cool highland temperatures, rolling slopes, and excellent airflow that define the region’s microclimate. These conditions, combined with naturally acidic soils, make it ideal for cultivating the 74158 coffee variety, prized for its bright acidity, clarity, and high quality. Generous spacing between coffee trees allows sunlight, air, and strength to flow through the farm, supporting healthy growth and resilient plants.

Landscape and Nature

Rivers flowing through the property, including the nearby Gatta and Arata, support both the farm’s ecosystem and its cultivation practices. The land is also marked by local landmarks and traditional trees, such as the Wachole, a hardy species historically used for fuel—symbols of how nature and daily life are deeply intertwined at Arara. The farm is currently in its fourth harvest cycle, producing specialty coffee processed naturally at the Gatta station.
